We’ve been a one car family for a few months now, and that was stressing me out when summer was approaching. How was I going to entertain four kids eight hours a day for three months?

I sat down to make a “Summer Fun” list of things we could do and realized it was actually quite simple to have fun. Especially when you can have loads of fun in your own backyard, and make mealtime your playground with Back to Nature Bug Scavenger Hunt and Bug Find It Jars!

Picnics, time in the inflatable pool, making mud pies, and bugs are some of what’s on our summer fun list. My kids LOVE bugs, what about yours?

When I say my kids love bugs, I mean they love to hold them and treat them like their babies, and chase mommy with them! I don’t care what type of bug it is, I run screaming and they laugh. A lot. To encourage them to stop scaring their mother, I made Back to Nature Bug Scavenger Hunts for another buggy fun option!

You can grab my Printable Back to Nature Bug Scavenger Hunt for your kids, and head outdoors to see how many you can find in your own backyard.

Bug Find It Jars

When you are done, give them Bug Find It Jars to continue the fun. Bugs may make me scream, but pretend bugs and yummy Back to Nature Made with Organic Crazy Bugs Macaroni & Cheese Dinner I can handle. Both are perfect for making a Bug Find It Jar!

To make Bug Find It Jars you will need:

  • 2 Boxes of Back to Nature Made with Organic Crazy Bugs Macaroni & Cheese Dinner (enough to make 4 small sized find it jars)
  • 4 Mason Jars
  • Plastic bugs and insects (no bigger than 3 inches)

Begin by filling the bottom of the mason jar with dry macaroni noodles. Next, place a few bugs in the jar and then add more dry macaroni noodles on top. Continue repeating the steps until the jar is full and the bugs are hidden among the noodles.

Now you have a Bug Find It Jar for the kids to shake and swirl to find the hidden bugs inside. Make sure you screw the lid back on first.

It’s been nice getting creative outdoors with the kids and it’s the perfect time to do that because June was Get Outdoors Month! Hit the backyard for fun, and head to the picnic table for a bowl of simply delicious pasta. That’s exactly what we did over the weekend and it was awesome and not a lot of work either.

I’m not a big fan of bugs either but kids seem to love them. What a great way to keep kids busy in the summer and on the go with the scavenger hunt.

I think my son would absolutely love this. I, too, hate bugs and can’t stand when he touches them, haha. This I think I can handle, though.

What a cute idea! I wonder how well it would work on my nieces… they’re terrified of bugs and insects!

We are all about healthy organic food at our house. My husband and I are vegan but… our grandkids are not. They love macaroni and cheese. I’d feel good about buying ‘Back to Nature’.

Scavenger hunts are so much fun, this one included. Although I’ve never seen one where you get too cook the pasta you found after, that is genius!
