How to Play Guess What’s In The Stocking

To play Guess What’s In The Stocking you will need a stocking, obviously. This can be a basic red one you can grab at Walmart for $1 or go nicer and thicker if you want. You’ll also need winter and Christmas themed items to fill the stocking with.

Winter and Christmas themed items that will work great for filling your stocking are:

  • Bell
  • Ornament – unbreakable balls are a good choice
  • Candy Cane
  • Pine Cone
  • Mistletoe
  • Candle
  • Glove or Mitten
  • Bow or Ribbon
  • Christmas cookie cutter
  • Star
  • Small String of Lights
  • Miniature Christmas Tree

Once you have all your items, make a list and count the total number of items. Now it is time to stuff the stocking! Fill the stocking as full as you can but leave room so you can tie or clip the stocking closed. You’ll also want enough room that players can feel around at the items.

Now it is time to get into how to play Guess What’s In The Stocking. Give each person a slip of of paper and a pen. Tell them how many total items are inside the stocking. Have the players feel around at the stocking and pass it along when they are done.

Setting a timer is a good idea to keep things fair and moving. When each person is done, they can begin writing down the items they think are inside the stocking. After every has taken their turn and filled out their guesses, it is time to reveal what is inside the stocking.

Take each item out one by one and have players tally up their correct answers when all items are revealed. The person with the most correct answers wins! The prize could be the stocking full of items or a gift you purchased.

You could do other items if you don’t want to do Christmas themed items, or if you are playing the game yearly and want new ideas. Other Guess What’s In The Stocking ideas are:

  • Food – wrapped candy bars and candy would be fun!
  • Camping – different items you would take with you like flashlight, matches, marshmallows, bug spray, etc.
  • Arts and Crafts – this would be good if there are kids involved!
