My fitness journey is never ending and while I indulge in my favorite holiday treats, I still focus on my healthy lifestyle.

Diet
One of the first things you should be focusing on is what you are eating. During the holidays especially, be careful with how much you are overindulging. They key part is “over”. Indulgeand enjoy those Christmas cookies, but don’t go overboard.
There is the saying that goes around this time of year that Christmas calories don’t count. While this may be true for some people, you may find yourself working twice as hard in January and onwards to shift any weight gained over the holidays. Try and follow a healthy balanced diet even over the Christmas period, while still enjoying those Christmas goodies here or there.

Exercise
It’s no secret that I love working out, especially with kettlebells. If you are watching what you eat then something that goes hand in hand with this is exercise. You can do one without the other but they work best when paired up and together make me feel my best mentally and physically.
The key to exercise and it working for you, is finding something you enjoy doing. There is no point going for an evening run if you don’t enjoy running. I hate running but I love lifting weights and they have kept my interest for going on 3 years now!
If you prefer swimming or yoga then do that, as long as you are moving then you are doing good for your body and mind! When you exercise, your happy hormone is released which gives you a good feeling, even if your body is sore. If you don’t want to hit the gym every day then you can find great workouts to do in the comfort of your own home like I do!
Arguably the most important factor when it comes to your health is sleep! For instance, you need to make sure that you are going to sleep at the right time each night and getting plenty of quality sleep. That distinction is important because going to bed doesn’t mean your body is getting the rest it needs.
Some nights I lie in bed for hours and wake up exhausted the next morning. Anyone else do that and wonder what’s going wrong here? Well, there are different levels of sleep and if you don’t reach the deeper levels, you’re not getting the right amount of rest. To avoid sleep issues try avoiding disturbances and distractions and get into the right bedtime routine. You should also think about avoiding things that will keep you awake, like caffeine and technology.
Water
Something else you need to make sure you do to focus on your health during the holidays is to drink plenty of water. Even in the colder months your body and mind still need to be hydrated. Aim to drink about two liters of water a day, which equates to around eight glasses.
It can be tricky remembering to drink water and a lot of people don’t like it. If you struggle to get your recommended intake of water then it might help to drink from a special water bottle. They can tell you when it’s time to drink and also when it’s time to refill. While it is easier said than done, especially around the holidays, make sure that you are avoiding stress. Stress is going to have a massive impact on your mental and physical health. The problem with the holidays is that it’s often far more stressful than most people are willing to admit.
You have to deal with the issue of money and then there’s the pressure of getting your house ready for Christmas parties. You might be having family over who you may or may not get along with. It’s entirely possible that you are also going to have to manage hectic work and personal schedules at the same time.
So, how can you avoid getting too stressed during this time of year? A few of the options I mentioned above will help a lot here. However, there are other things like trying some breathing exercises.
The right breathing exercises are wonderful because they will regulate your body and your mind at the same type. This is also something that you’ll learn if you try yoga. Another way to relax more during this time is to meditate or to practice mindfulness. You might think that it’s going to be challenging to learn but, meditating is actually quite easy. You just need to clear your mind, and music can help quite a lot here. Tranquil songs will make you feel at peace with yourself as well as the universe.
