Who doesn’t like Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Treats?! I mean, we can still be friends and all, but we are talking about marshmallows and the cereal that goes Snap! Crackle! Pop! formed into a deliciously yummy treat.

We love making fun shapes with our Rice Krispies® treats, especially around the holidays, like my Krispies Surprise Ornaments!

Krispies Surprise Ornaments

These ball-shaped Rice Krispies® treats are molded around a surprise chocolate piece of candy. Then, decorated to look like a pretty ornament that isn’t too pretty to eat.

How to Make Krispies Surprise Ornaments

Ingredients

  • 6 Cups of Rice Krispies® Cereal – grab a family size box if you want to make a double batch and have breakfast
  • 4 Cups of Miniature Marshmallows
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • Various Chocolate Candies
  • Melting Chocolate
  • Decorator Icing
Krispies Surprise Ornaments

Make Rice Krispies® treats like you normally would, by melting butter in a large saucepan, stirring in the marshmallows, and then stirring in the cereal. Instead of spreading it into a sheet pan for bars, transfer it to a bowl for easier handling.

Krispies Surprise Ornaments

The first thing you want to do is spray your hands with baking spray or butter, so the mix doesn’t stick to you as you form the ornaments. Take a handful of the mix and flatten it out a bit in your hand.

Next, place a candy in the middle, and start working the cereal into a ball shape around the candy until it is hidden in the middle. Complete this step until you have you used up all the Rice Krispies® treats mix.

Next, add the ornament top. Melt the melting chocolate to use as a glue. Apply it to the bottom of the chocolate using a toothpick, and stick it on the top of the ornament ball.

Krispies Surprise Ornaments

Finally, you can decorate your Krispies Surprise Ornaments! Use melting chocolate to attach little candies, as well as decorating icing to add designs to your ornament treats.

This may be the most fun part because Rice Krispies® treat making is an easy activity to make with children, especially when it’s chilly outside!
