It has been a tech-tastic smart hero filled two weeks here at Mom On The Side. We’ve gone to the Premiere of Big Hero 6, Interviews with Go Go Tamago & Honey Lemon, gone Inside the Robot with Directors Don Hall and Chris Williams. Now, it’s time to go into the Big Hero 6 Recording Booth! While in LA last week, I got the chance to do a character voice over at Disney Animation Studios. Obviously, this made me a master at character voice overs, so knowledgeable that I 5 Tips for Doing a Character Voice Over. Oh, and me as Baymax!

5 Tips for Doing a Character Voice Over

1) Practice different voices before going into the recording booth. I got ready for my debut as Baymax by reading all kinds of bed time stories to the twins. I got into each character and worked those vocal chords at different octaves. I should be honest, character voices and bed time stories have always gone hand in hand at my house.

2) Don’t worry about your clothes. I mean, wear something, but you are not appearing on camera so getting all fancy isn’t necessary. I like to really get into character and my Baymax Hoodie was perfect for the occasion.

3) Clear your throat and say something before you start. That will get rid of any cracks and scratches. Honestly, I could have you used a shot of Jager to calm the nerves, but it was Disney Animation Studios so I kept it PG.  It also helped that Recording Engineer Michael Weissman was awesome and very welcoming. After all, we were in the recording booth where Scott Adsit actually voiced Baymax.

4) Have fun with it. I changed my voice, ad-libbed a line, and knew at the end of the day that I was destiny to stick with character voices at bed time. Man, it was a fun experience though.

5) After you have finished your voice over, it’s time to share it with your fans. So, to you, I give my debut as Baymax……you are now my critics. Enjoy.

I loved how you changed your voice for your video. I couldn’t see the final one it’s blocked.
