Do you suffer withdrawls between seasons of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D? Are you looking for a reason to finally be sucked into the amazing world that is Marvel? Do you like strong female characters that don’t involve the typical family/work roles? If you answered yes to any of those questions than I know what you need. Marvel’s Agent Carter on ABC!
“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring “Captain America’s” Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.”
While in LA last month, we screened the premiere episode of Marvel’s Agent Carter and followed that up with interviews with two talented people on the Marvel team. Co-President of Marvel Studios and Executive Producer of Marvel’s Agent Carter, Louis D’Espostio and Marvel’s Head Of TV and Executive Producer of Marvel’s Agent Carter, Jeph Loeb. The combination of these two brings together Marvel Studios and Television into a show you are not going to want to miss.

Marvel’s Agent Carter takes us back in time, years before Agent Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D. The show follows Agent Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell), and for all you Captain America fans, this is about 6 months to a year after his death. The era is a precursor to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., back when the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) was running, and as the show goes on, we see how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D comes to be.
Hayley Atwell is one reason you will find yourself unable to turn the channel. She is likeable, fun, gorgeous, and she plays a strong woman in a man’s world amazingly well. While chatting with Jeph Loeb, he said something that really stuck….
“Television is about the intimacy of the character. A great character is someone you want to see week after week and tell your friends about.” – Jeph Loeb
Agent Peggy Carter is that character, when played by Hayley Atwell. From her style, to her language, to her persona….she is a woman who women want to be like. She doesn’t take crap from the guys, can kick some butt when needed, yet has that femininity to her that makes you wish you were born in the 40’s.
“Marvel knows how to empower women. They aren’t sidekicks. They are just as important.” – Jeph Loeb
The part of Agent Peggy Carter was written with Hayley Atwell in mind. I gotta be honest, after watching the premiere episode, I can’t think of anyone else that could have filled the role as well as Atwell did. Thankfully she was thrilled, involved, and invested in the script to make Marvel’s Agent Carter really come to life.
Howard Stark is an important part of Marvel’s Agent Carter. He reaches out to Agent Carter, an old acquaintance, for help when he is being framed (so he says) for selling dangerous weapons to anyone who shells out the cash. Edwin Jarvis is provided to Carter as she assists Stark, and that gives us a chance to learn a lot more about Jarvis too. I don’t know about you, but I actually want to know more about him!
For those of you that have been watching Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you can expect 8 episodes of Marvel’s Agent Carter and then, be ready to move right into 12 new Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! That means “no repeat hell” as Jeph Loeb says! 😀
Don’t miss the Marvel’s Agent Carter Premiere on ABC at 8 PM ET on Tuesday, January 6th!
In the episode, “Bridge and Tunnel,” Howard Stark’s deadliest weapon has fallen into enemy hands, and only Agent Carter can recover it. But can she do so before her undercover mission is discovered by SSR Chief Dooley and Agent Thompson?
“Strong heroes come from within. Put someone in a dark place and a hero will rise up.” – Jeph Loeb
