Here are a few ways I’m preparing my twins for preschool, and a shout out to LEGO for sending the twins an awesome building set for this post!
The twins haven’t stopped talking about going to school all summer. They are so excited to start preschool, but some nervousness set in about a month ago.
Right after they asked if I was going to stay with them at preschool. For some reason, they thought I was coming with them, even though they’ve seen their older siblings go off to school every day. Oops.
At that moment I realized it was time to talk more about this upcoming change, and help prepare them.
4 Ways I’m Preparing My Twins for Preschool
#1 Solo Outings
Until now, we hadn’t purposely taken the twins out individually. Unless only one was sick and went to the doctor. As of today I still don’t know if the twins will be in the same preschool class or not.
Because of the unknown, I’m purposely taking them on solo outings. Last weekend Miss Charlie went with me to a Fairytale Ball and Mr. Oliver went with dad to the library and toy store. There were a few tears at first, and each wanted to go with the other, but they quickly got over it and had tons of fun.
#2 Reading Preschool Books
Every time we visited the library over the summer, I checked out preschool books. Stories on the night before preschool, stories about the first day of preschool, and even a story about what moms do when their kids are at preschool. They’ve opened up kid level conversations about what preschool would be like, and that’s what I was going for.
#3 Preschool Worksheets
Each week I gather Printable Preschool Worksheets for the twins to work on. Sometimes it’s shapes and numbers, and other times it’s working on cutting with scissors. They are working on writing them letters of their name as well, and so far we only have half the letters down.
#4 Playing with LEGO DUPLO
LEGO DUPLO has helped my twins learn colors, hand coordination, and patience as they build. Now that they are heading off to school, the LEGO DUPLO Preschool Set makes it fun to show what preschool can be like! It’s part of the LEGO DUPLO My Town series that helps play out real-life scenarios. Starting preschool is one of those scenarios making this set perfect for play time right now.
The LEGO DUPLO Preschool includes three LEGO DUPLO figures to play school. A preschool teacher and two children make it easy to act out a day in a preschool classroom. With a preschool building complete with an opening door, shelf, opening drawers and a toilet area with washbasin, you cover almost every thing a preschooler will encounter during their school day.
While I have talked to the twins about what their day in preschool would be like, this set makes it fun to show them with toys. Everything from a preschool sign to talk about walking into school, and a sandwich brick to talk about lunch time behaviors at school. There are also bricks numbered 1 to 3, a book, a child’s drawing to remind them there is plenty of time to play and fun.
