As we look forward to the new year, and living out those dreams and goals on our list, there are some other things to keep in mind to help you make sure that you are healthy. These lifestyle changes to embrace in the new year can help you get started to make the new year the best one yet!
Lifestyle Changes to Embrace in the New Year
Snooze Not Lose
We’ve all heard it before, but getting enough shut-eye every single night really is important. Your body needs to rest so that your mind can renew itself and heal.
Create a consistent sleep schedule for the new year, and stick to it throughout the year. A common problem nowadays, that can lead to sleep deprivation. I am guilty of crawling into bed and getting on my phone. I notice that if I’m on social media too much at night, I don’t get the rest I need. If this sounds familiar, try installing apps on your phone that block you from searching social media at certain times of the day.
There are other things that can effect the quality of your sleep. If there are other factors that are bothering you about your sleep, I highly suggest talking to your doctor or a mental health professional about it to see if you can get some advice or help.
Digital Well Being
Whether it is night time or daytime, having a healthy relationship with your phone, and all your other electronic devices, is important. Set healthy boundaries for your digital well being if you’re going to focus on a healthy lifestyle in 2024.
Set healthy boundaries with the people in your life as well. Do you get phone calls at all hours? Try setting a schedule or making it clear when you are able to accept calls so that people don’t call you after certain hours or before a certain time of the day.
While this may seem harsh, especially for loved ones, you have to take big steps to control your well-being digitally. When too much of your day is being taken up by conversations and you’re getting behind and not getting enough sleep, it is time to protect your well being.
Don’t Shy Away from Checkups
Regular health checkups should be part of the mix in the new year. Become best friends with your general practitioner, your dentist, and anyone else you should be seeing regularly.
The best way to face your fears about your health is to actually know what is going on. Monitoring and screening certain things is essential. I have the worst dental phobia of anyone I know and it took me years to have problems worked on. I got through it and felt a million times better when it was all over. If I can do it, you can too!
You also want to make sure that you’re up to date on things like vaccinations, and medications if you take any regularly.
