Different Ways To Look After Yourself
During Pregnancy
Eat Right Throughout Pregnancy
Whether you are in the 1st month of your pregnancy, or the 6th month of pregnancy you need to make sure you are giving your body enough nutrients and calories to work properly. When you’re pregnant, there are quite a few foods that you cannot eat (some of them may shock you!) and it’s best to check if you’re ever not sure.
There are reasons why you can’t eat certain foods and it’s best not to risk it. During pregancy, you may have some issues with your teeth due to calcium, so getting more calcium into your body is always a good idea. During my first pregnancy my calcium became depleted and I had to get dental work about a week after deliver. I do not recommend that!
Another common issue with pregnancy is low iron and having an iron deficiency. Try to eat iron-rich foods throughout your pregnancy to prevent this from happening. You also want to make sure you’re not having too many processed or fatty foods. Not only can this be unhealthy for the baby, but it can also contribute towards things like heartburn for you.
Try to eat healthy and fulfilling foods that are full of protein, iron, fruits, and vegetables. You will get cravings as well and should indulge them, just try not to go too crazy. Alongside having a healthy diet, make sure you’re also taking your prenatal vitamins for a healthy pregnancy.
Keep Active As Much As Possible
When you become pregnant, you may feel nauseous at the start of the pregnancy. You also might feel a bit more lethargic towards the end of the pregnancy, especially as you get bigger and bigger. Despite these, staying active will be very beneficial for you and your pregnancy.
Keeping active will help you feel like you have more energy and can help you keep a positive mindset. It can be as simple as taking a walk or doing some prenatal yoga. Whatever activity you choose, it can help you feel better towards the end of pregnancy. Keeping up with a good workout routine can help you avoid feeling so lethargic and uncomfortable.
Look After Mental Health
One of the other important things to do when you’re pregnant is to look after your mental health. So many different things happening to your body while you grow another person inside you can be a very worrying. You may get some anxiety about all the changes that are happening, as well as the future changes that will happen once the baby is born.
These concerns are important so never keep them to yourself. Speak to your partner, your mom, or even your midwife and doctor. You can also find online and in-person groups of pregnant women and new moms who can share their stories, offer advice and even become friends with you. Especially if you are going through similar things like hyperemesis or depression, if you find others who are experiencing it then you can find someone to talk to about it.
Go To All Of Your Appointments
When you are pregnant your calendar can fill up with a lot of checkups and appointments. You normally will get different appointments to test things to make sure you are healthy and there are no complications with the pregnancy. You also will get some ultrasounds so they can check the weight and height of the baby, as well as make sure there are no signs of disabilities or abnormalities in the womb.
These are the scans which can also tell you what the sex of the baby is. If you are considered high risk from other health concerns or your weight then you may have extra appointments with a specialist and extra regular scans to keep an eye on the baby and make sure they are okay.
All of these appointments are so important and it is vital you attend each and every one. If you can, get someone to come with you then that will be helpful and give you moral support. If you ever get worried that the baby isn’t moving as much as you normally expect, or you feel that something isn’t quite right, you should always get checked out. It is better to be safe than sorry.
