You know those videos that make your hair stand on end, your heart swell, and your eyes wet? I’ve got on of those for you today because the world gets to Meet Auli’i Cravalho! A sweet teenage girl of just 14, Auli’i Cravalho has found her voice as Disney’s Moana, which she will play alongside Dwayne Johnson when Moana hits theaters November 23rd, 2016!

Walt Disney Animation Studios searched worldwide to cast Moana. Cravalho was literally the very last person they heard voice Moana and seeing her receive that she got the part is priceless….
As you can imagine with any Disney role that arises, there were lots of eager girls trying out for the role of Moana. Cravalho though, she set her sights firmly on her sophomore year of high school and only auditioned after being invited by film’s Hawaii casting director after she remembered an unrelated audition that Auli’i had done for an acappella group.
“I didn’t think I would have a chance,” she said. “When I was little, I used to dance around the house singing at the top of my lungs. In my mind, that was performing and I loved the feeling of it. But I never imagined being in a Disney movie, being Moana—representing my culture in that way.”
Auli’i Cravalho’s talent was noticed right away, even we can see it onscreen and she’s only in a voice booth! She made me smile uncontrollably and touched all the feelers, it takes a special kind of person to do that an audience and I think Disney has found it again.
“Her audition was fantastic – she was such a raw talent,” said producer Osnat Shurer. “Auli’i was among a small number of girls we brought back for a second round of auditions. Then we flew her and her mom over to audition at our studios in Burbank.”
