Tips for Spring Cleaning Boys Rooms

Being a teen boy mom comes with some interesting smells. Thankfully I’ve got some great tips for spring cleaning boys rooms, and I’m sharing them with you today in partnership with Reckitt Benckiser.

Old pizza, wet socks, and well, boy. That pretty much sums up the smell that hits you in the face when you enter my 11-year- old’s bedroom.

While I do regular cleaning weekly, there is something about his room that needs major help when spring arrives.

Tips for Spring Cleaning Boys’ Rooms

Before we dive into the cleaning, I must warn you. There is a chance you could unearth some ridiculously disgusting smells as you go.

Do your nose a favor because moms deserve to enjoy a nice scent while cleaning away the stink. Set an Air Wick Life Scents Room Mist on top of the dresser. The first instant spray with constantly changing fragrance that is fast acting and eliminates odors.

Right now I’ve got Air Wick PURE Freshmatic Tropical Flowers Refill misting and it makes for a great smell while cleaning!

Tips for Spring Cleaning Boys Rooms

#1 Over, Under, Around, and Through

Move furniture, flip the pocket sprung mattress, and empty the closet. You never know where forgotten food and crusty clothes are hiding. Vacuum uncovered areas and wipe down walls before moving things back.

#2 Purge and Declutter

Tweens are ever evolving creatures both in interests and in stature. Clothes and toys that were played with and worn last spring haven’t seen the light of day since fall. Grab boxes and trash bags and sort everything into toss, sell/donate, or keep piles.

#3 Reorganize

Now that you’ve got all your piles separated, get rid of the trash and remove the sell/donate out of the room. You are left with everything that needs to be in the room and you start reorganizing.

Totes and drawer carts are awesome for organizing a boy’s room. Toys, video games, and little what-nots can all go in their own place making everything organized and easier for clean-up.

#4 Finishing Touches

Place a small trash can with a bag somewhere in the room. I like to tuck an extra bag in the bottom to make sure it gets replaced.

Tips for Spring Cleaning Boys Rooms

Keep a laundry basket in the bedroom if you can, and hopefully stinky socks won’t be shoved under the bed. Plug-in an Air Wick Fresh Waters Scented Oil Warmer with 8x more fragrance control that works for any room no matter the size**! Plus, it lasts up to 45 days* per refill so you can swap them out every other month between now and next spring.

**vs. Previous Air Wick Scented Oil Warmer
**Up to room size of 124 square feet
*Based on low setting

Thanks for sharing these tips! This is a much better option than the fire I was planning to set in my son’s room later this week. LOL

I definitely need to re-organize my sons play room in his bedroom. I try to do it when he is not around because otherwise I’m not able to purge anything. After it’s done I feel so much better. I like the idea of having an air freshener in there too.

Thanks for these tips. I had a daughter, but let me tell you, her room was still funktacular.

I love the Airwick plug-ins. I have them in several rooms of my home. It used to amaze me at the number of socks I would find in strange places in my sons room when I would clean it.

Cleaning my sosn’s room was mission impossible when he is around. I have to wait until he’s out of the house to do the clean up. Thanks for sharing these tips, liked the air freshener part!

I have a 12 year old who plays mini basketball in is room constantly so I know the smells. Candles just won’t do so I need the Airwick. I know the room needs a complete overhaul.

I really need to do this with my son’s room. I am scared to look into his closet. I know it’s packed with things that he doesn’t even need anymore.
