School work doesn’t come easy for my oldest son. He took extra reading classes and speech therapy in elementary school.
For two years he also had a tutor for reading that he looked forward to meeting with every week. Tutoring is something he responded very well to, so when his junior high teacher mentioned that he asked for extra help in math I wasn’t surprised.
One on one time is something he thrives with, especially when it comes to subjects that challenge him like math. However, he’s also active in sports and his before and after school time is limited.
When I found about Revolution Math tutoring for kids and the online classes with weekend availability I had to try it out!
Revolution Math Tutoring for Kids
Revolution Math is a live tutoring program with a story-based curriculum that makes the learning process super fun and engaging for kids. That combination is right up my son’s learning alley and there are some hands-on learning activities thrown in the mix thanks to the welcome learning kit.
Prior to tutoring, we received a box from Revolution Math with items to be used during the classes. Things like graph paper, a protractor, dice, area tiles, flash cards, and more.
He had his first Revolution Math class this past Sunday evening. Other than not being able to get the camera on my laptop to work he said it was really good.
It helped refresh his memory on some things he’d forgotten about fractions. He really liked being able to communicate with the tutor much like he can in the classroom, if not better because of the small class size – there can be up to four kids in class and he only had one other kid in his!
During each Revolution Math tutoring session kids engage in a story by reading for the character they pick. During the story, there are breaks for math lessons.
It was really cool that my son could write and solve problems right on the screen with a live tutor walking him through any struggles. A fun bonus to the tutoring is that after solving various problems kids are rewarded with gems that can be used to get prizes!
There are hour-long classes for 2nd-5th grade levels. There can be up to four students in each class and my son had one other student in his.
With a variety of hours available from Sunday-Friday you really can find a time that works for your families schedule. There are even afternoon class times during the week if you are looking for a smart after-school activity for your kids!
