I love a great memoir. It’s like an intimate peek inside someone’s window….someone else’s life that has experienced something different from me, and sometimes something similar. A journey that inspires others, gives courage, and gives hope. A great memoir is that. I recently got an advanced copy of Everything You Ever Wanted by Jillian Lauren and I gotta say, it’s not only a great memoir, it’s a Must Read for Summer!
Must Read For Summer: Everything You Ever Wanted by Jillian Lauren
In her younger years, Jillian Lauren was a college dropout, a drug addict, and an international concubine in the Prince of Brunei’s harem, an experience she immortalized in in her bestselling memoir, SOME GIRLS. In her thirties, Jillian’s most radical act was learning the steadying power of love when she and her rock star husband adopt an Ethiopian child with special needs. After Jillian loses a close friend to drugs, she herself is saved by her fierce, bold love for her son as she fights to make him—and herself—feel safe and at home in the world.

Everything You Ever Wanted is a humorously-honest, eye-opening, and sometimes heart-breaking read that I couldn’t put down. By Chapter 3 I felt like Jillian and I were friends, and I was buckled in for the ride. Every mom out there will be able to relate to something in this memoir. Whether you were eager for motherhood, struggled with getting pregnant, have gone through the adoption process, or just hoped for a second chance, this book will hit home.
Motherhood is going to be the story that justifies my life, riddled with mistakes and missteps though it may have been. – Jillian Lauren
It can be hard to remember that the past is the past and we can change our future. We can make things happen if we go for it. Challenge ourselves, have faith in ourselves, and don’t loose hope. Jillian Lauren’s Memoir, Everything You Ever Wanted, is a great reminder of this. It explores the complex ideas of identity and reinvention in a raw way that is truly motivating.
