*I partnered with Turbo Tax and ShopAtHome to bring you these Mo Money Mojitos and 5 Reasons to Throw a Taxes Party + the Most Commonly Missed Deductions because we should be celebrating our refund! Opinions are 100% my own.
It’s that time of year again. Many of us are either hiding out alone, or making a dreading reservation that we aren’t always looking forward to.
Don’t fly solo this tax season. Celebrate your refund and make tax time a party! Filing taxes is something pretty much all of us have to do, so why not do it with friends?!
Over the weekend we had some friends come over for Mo Money Mojitos, a “Taxo” Bar, and a little Turbo Tax fun. We ate, drank, and shared tax tips and missed deductions to help each other get the best refund possible with Turbo Tax.
We didn’t discuss what each of us made, or all those faux pas topics, just the fun stuff like charitable contributions we earned a deduction on, or those fun, but work filled business trips we went on. In case you need a reason to party…here are 4!
4 Reasons to Throw a Taxes Party
+ Mo Money Mojitos
1) A Taxes Party makes doing taxes fun. I bet you never thought that was possible right? Turbo Tax and I usually sit at my desk for an hour or so and go through the process. While Turbo Tax is super easy to use, it is more fun with friends and food.
2) A Taxes Party gives you a chance to learn and share tips. You go to your friends for advice on what electronics to purchase, what movies are hot, and what restaurants are good. Why not talk about what deductions and credits you know about?
Deductions and credits are often missed and something people pay big bucks to have unearthed when tax time rolls around. Tips and advice from friends are free and you never know what you will learn.
Speaking of deductions, check out the Most Commonly Missed Deductions below, all of which Turbo Tax will make sure you know about, and take advantage of if you qualify.
- State and Local Sales Tax Deduction
- Out-Of-Pocket Charitable Contributions
- Student Loan Interest
- Moving Expenses to Take Your First Job
- Child and Dependent Care Credit
- Earned Income Credit
- State Tax You Paid Last Spring
- Refinancing Points
- Jury Duty Paid to Employer
- Reinvested Dividends
3) A Taxes Party lets you get creative with drinks and food! Who doesn’t love making themed snacks and beverages for a party? I know I do! We rolled out the Mo Money Mojitos and a Taxo Bar for our friends this past weekend. The Taxo Bar was super easy and everyone gobbled up the tacos, beans, and corn. Washing it all down with a Mo Money Mojito was the perfect thing.
(The Mojitos Recipe is at the end of the post if you want to whip them up for your own Taxes Party!)
4) A Taxes Party gives you a chance to celebrate your refund! I don’t know about you, but I love telling my hubby that final tax refund number. I teased him this year and made it seem like things didn’t turn out that great for us.
We had a good laugh when I told him the amount that was being directly deposited into our bank account. With a party, you can pour a glass and cheers with friends to a “Happy You Year” for all everyone when you hit that submit button on your taxes with Turbo Tax.
If you haven’t tried Turbo Tax to file your Federal and State Taxes, I highly recommend trying them out. I’ve been using them for a year and love how easy to use it is! Being able to have Turbo Tax walk me through each step, so I don’t miss any deductions or credits, is extremely helpful.
My favorite Turbo Tax feature is that it imports all of my tax information from previous years, thanks to my information being securely stored in my account from all the years I have filed with them.
