There’s nothing like two back to back summer vacations to make you realize how picky your kids are when it comes to food. Whining about strange foods on the menu and wishing for their favorite snacks.

Our summer vacations made me realize that it’s time for my whole family to get rid of junk food and find new healthier foods everyone likes.

Now that we are acclimated to school schedules and my new work schedule it’s time for a little Healthy Family Challenge. I’m hoping this gets us all back on track, even our cats, and I’d love for you to join us if your family’s habits need a bit of revamping.

Healthy Family Challenge Ideas for Family and Pets

How We’re Taking a Healthy Family Challenge

The first thing I did was get the kids in the kitchen making meals with me. They all love to bake with me but getting them involved in dinner prep is helping the kids try new things. Washing veggies and stirring ingredients together are things even my twins can do at 5-years-old.

Not only does it get them involved in what they are eating but it also gives us time to talk about the foods we are using to create our meals. Why certain foods are good for us, different ways we can use ingredients, and even sampling what we are cooking with.

Lunches are another area that is being hit with our Healthy Family Challenge. The twins take their lunch to school almost every day.

While one of them would be content with a bag full of snacks, that isn’t going to happen. I’m also packing my lunch to take to work every day and I make our lunches together so the twins see that mommy is packing a healthy lunch too.

Our Healthy Family Challenge is about the whole family and that includes our pets. Kiggy and Five love their food about as much as the twins do.

Five would eat all day he could lol! While we are focusing on healthier meals for our plates the cats are taking the Purina ONE® 28-Day Challenge!

TAKE THE PURINA ONE® 28-DAY CHALLENGE

With the challenge, you could see a difference in 28 days when you make the switch to Purina ONE®. Sign up now to get a $3 off coupon and a personalized food recommendation for your pet. I picked up a bag of Purina ONE® True Instinct Natural Grain Free With Real Chicken Dry Cat Food at Target for our challenge.

Target is one of my go-to stores for pet food and supplies because they have ridiculously cute items, great prices, and Purina ONE® products in formulas for all life stages which is helpful for cat owners like us who have one cat just over 1-year-old and another over 7-years-old. If you’d rather shop from the comfort of home you save 5% and enjoy free shipping when you subscribe to Purina One® at Target.

From eyes to energy to skin and coat, every ingredient of Purina ONE® True Instinct Natural Grain Free With Real Chicken Dry Cat Food is combined in a smart way to make a noticeable difference in your pet’s whole body health.

We’ve been fans of Purina for both our cats and dog for years now and I choose it because their foods are created with carefully selected ingredients in their own USA facilities and EVERY INGREDIENT HAS A PURPOSE!  They also have meticulous quality and safety standards to ensure what I’m putting in my cat’s bowls provides them with the best nutrition.

After a week of Purina’s 28-Day Challenge, my legs are being circled by cats who are even more excited when mealtime arrives. I mean, they love their food but I’m getting a lot more purring when they swarm my legs.

They seem to be a touch more active too which could increase over the next few weeks so I guess I’ll have to head back to Target for some new toys because let’s be honest, I love a reason to go to Target!

Speaking of being more active, that’s something else we are doing as part of our Healthy Family Challenge. My kids all have physical education in school and the oldest two are active in sports but I want us to be more active as a family.

Taking walks around the neighborhood together, raking up leaves together, playing at the local parks, and even bundling up and playing in the snow that fell last week are things we’ve been doing. Yes, playing at the park and in the snow during the same week is oddly normal here in Iowa!

Meal prepping as a family, modeling healthier eating for the kids, getting the pets involved with Purina’s 28-Day Challenge, and being more active as a family are how we are taking a Healthy Family Challenge this fall. I hope you will join us in ways that will make your family healthier and happier!
