One of the things I love about being a National Geographic Kids Insider, is opening the mailbox to awesome books. Most recently it was How To Survive Anything by National Geographic, and now I feel more prepared to face a shark attack, earthquake, killer bee attack, and even being lost in the woods. One of my favorites is How to Survive Your Most Embarrassing Moment and because I think it is a great life tool, I’m going to share it with you all today!
How to Survive Your Most Embarrassing Moment (and other things)
You didn’t notice the toilet paper stuck to your shoe leaving the bathroom, or that your shoelace is untied and you trip and land on your lunch. The whole office or classroom is silent and a toot escapes, or your chasing after your toddler and your pants rip as you bend over to scoop them up. Your most embarrassing moments won’t all happen at once, but we are all going to have them. It’s how you deal with your most embarrassing moment that makes all the difference.
- Laugh It Off: It’s kind of hard to tease someone who already finds something funny.
- Don’t Freak Out: Don’t make the moment more memorable by running off, crying, or freaking out. Remind yourself that it’s the situation that people are laughing about, not you, and you would probably be laughing if the embarrassing moment were on the other foot.
- Get Some Perspective: Basically, there are always way more important things to focus us on at any given time.
- Move On: The sooner you forget about those embarrassing moments, the sooner everyone else will forget too.
- Prepare Yourself: Use your sense of humor and have responses ready to go for those bullies and mean kids that want to egg the moment on.
These tips for How to Survive Your Most Embarrassing Moment are inside the How to Survive Anything book by National Geographic. It really is a very handy resource for situations that could possibly arise in your life. Not only is it informative, but it’s also fun and has pictures. Yes, even as an adult I enjoy pictures in my books. 😀
