Family movie nights are a staple in our home. It’s the perfect way for our family to get together and wind down after a long and stressful week.

Movie nights with family are usually on Fridays or Saturdays so we can all stay up late without worrying about work or school the next morning. Fun family movie nights have become something the whole family looks forward to each week.

A great way for us to disconnect from the world and enjoy some quality family time. Here are a few family movie night ideas to make things more fun and make those moments sweeter with the ones you love.

Get ready to create fun family movie nights with this Ultimate Guide to family movie night ideas including movie night themes, snacks, and more!s

Ultimate Guide to
Fun Family Movie Nights

#1 Pick a Family Friendly Movie

Make sure to pick a movie that everyone will enjoy. To make sure everyone gets a say in the movie we watch, we let a different person pick a movie each week. This way, everyone will get a chance to choose a movie without spending all night picking one out together.

#2 Spice up your Popcorn

Popcorn is a staple for family movie nights! Make sure to pick up some popcorn from the store for movie nights, or even splurge and get some fresh from a local popcorn store.

Popcorn toppings are a fun way to dress up your plain bowl of popcorn, like Cheesy Popcorn with a Kick. Set up a popcorn bar in the kitchen with a bunch of different toppings like flavor powders, pretzels, marshmallows, sprinkles, and even Brach’s Milk Chocolates. A delicious way to make movie nights a little more sweeter.

#3 Snack Bar

When it comes to family movie night ideas, a snack bar is a must have. Set up your movie night snack bar on the kitchen counter, dining room table, or coffee table.

Set out bags of your favorite candies, like Brach’s Milk Chocolate Double Dipped Peanuts and Brach’s Milk Chocolate Raisins.

See, it doesn’t have to be fancy to be fun and the snack bar pairs wonderfully with popcorn, too! Milk chocolate peanuts getting all warm and melty are one of the reasons I love family movie night.

They make moments sweeter and I lick every drip of BRACH’S improved chocolate recipe and sustainable chocolate from my fingers when I’m done too because oh my goodness have you tried the new BRACH’S 100% real chocolate products?! I’ll wait while you run to the store right now because they are SO worth it!

#4 Family Movie Night Themes

Once you start having a running list of family movie night movies, you can start planning themes. Let your kids dress up likes characters from the movie, or wear character t-shirts.

Fill your snack bar with themed movie snacks and drinks. If you need some ideas for family movie night themes here are a few:

  • Disney’s The Litte Mermaid Movie Night Theme
  • Disney’s Big Hero 6 Movie Night Theme
  • DreamWork’s Trolls Movie Night Theme
  • Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Night Theme
  • 13 Fun Themed Movie Nights
  • The Secret Life of Pets Movie Night Theme

#5 Create Homemade Movie Tickets or a Sign

Create an authentic movie going experience by making it an event! Make your own tickets or even a sign by the popcorn bar with the movie or theme of the night. My kids love getting to see the sign each week, and it really adds to the experience.

#6 Invite Friends and Family to the Event

Invite your friends or even extended family to movie nights. Have the kids come in their PJs and break out the sleeping bags. This is especially great for Backyard Family Movie Nights when there is lots of room!

Are you ready to plan some fun family movie nights with your kids and make those moments a little sweeter?
