It’s no secret around here that we love family game night. With business travel and sick toddlers recently, we haven’t gotten in as many game nights as we’d like over the last month, but we are back at it! There are even some new games in the rotation including Quelf by Spin Master Games for an Unpredictable Family Game Night! Any game that warns that it causes random acts of silliness is a game for family game night. Yep, that’s the “warning” on Quelf and it made for an entertaining holiday family game night on Thanksgiving I must say! If you love random, creative, and unpredictable games that have your teenagers holding keys on their head or leaving you unable to bend your arms and legs, Quelf is your game.
The only rule in Quelf is that you OBEY THE CARD!
So what is Quelf and why do I think your family would find a ton of enjoyment playing? The basic goal of Quelf is simply to have fun and be the first player to reach the finish. Game play simply involves rolling the dice and moving ahead that many space. Depending on the color you land on, you draw the corresponding card, and there are five categories of cards:
ROOLZ: The blue Roolz cards have a rule you must follow as long as the card is in play, or else you pay the card’s penalty. Global Roolz affect all players, where as Talking and Action Roolz only affect the player who drew the card. The “rules” can be anything from shouting a word after each person’s turn, winking whenever you ask a question, pretending to be gnome, and tons more.
QUIZZLE: The green Quizzle cards are trivia questions with a wide range of topics, including impossible. Lots of the Quizzle cards feature extra credit giving you the chance to move one space forward if you get it right. I was always a big of extra credit it in high school, especially history class, so this is right up my alley! 😀
STUNTZ & SHOWBIZ: The yellow Stuntz cards and purple Showbiz cards put the spotlight on the player in a fun and maybe even challenging way! Sing, dance, try not to blink, or even balance shoes on your head to get yourself in the lead.
SCATTERBRAINZ: The red Scatterbrainz cards are awesome because everyone gets to play! You get to choose a topic if a choice is given, and each player must give a valid answer. You keep it going until a player gives an answer that’s already been said, can’t think of an answer, or takes to long to answer. You’ll laugh until you cry with this outrageously unfilled and unpredictable game for family game night, or even those upcoming holiday parties! Quelf is a game that will provide non-stop hilarious adventure and some great memories for everyone!

I like the way all the cards want something different so if you are not good at trivia that is oK because everyone gets to use their strengths. Sounds fun!

Never heard of Quelf but I’m always on the hunt for something (anything) that keeps us from relying on screen time at night! Thanks for posting about this!
