Bows have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. No, not frilly hair bows, although I did sport a lot of those too. I’m talking about compound bows and targets.
My dad and brothers all shoot bows, and while a lot of their experience is with deer, I wanted my son to learn about compound bows as a hobby. Archery. There are a lot of benefits of archery for kids and I was excited to see what he thought about shooting Genesis Bows!
As soon as his custom Genesis Original Bow showed up, I called my dad and brother over. I knew they would want to see the bow, and show him the ins and outs of shooting.
The Genesis Original is the official bow of the National Archery in the schools. If it’s something he decides to continue doing beyond a hobby, I’m glad he’s learning on a bow he could use in school.
Benefits of Archery for Kids
- Improves hand-eye coordination and balance: The first thing my son said is “there aren’t any sights!” He’s used to his BB gun and video games, so he has to use other parts of his brain to zone in on the target. Balance is a big thing for my kiddo that still won’t ride a bike. Learning to stand in place, plant his feet, and get a good hold on the bow will in a straight line help him practice.
- Increases focus and patience: Anyone else have a 9 year old that doesn’t sit still or is constantly switching topics or activities? A Genesis Compound Bow is a fun way to help kids learn focus and patience, especially as they learn to attach the bow to the strings. 😉
- Helps youth develop a strong connection with nature: Kids need to get outside more and archery is something kids can do in pretty much any temperature. I’m looking forward to my son putting down the video game controller and picking up his Genesis Original Compound Bow more. We’re off to a great start as he already has plans to shoot more next weekend with his dad!
- Social sport people of any age and athletic ability can participate in: I love this, especially with so much competition out there. As far as the age thing, I got to witness three generations shoot the Genesis Original in my front yard so that’s definitely true. 🙂
So what is so awesome about the Genesis Compound Bow that has my son bonding with his dad, grandfather, and uncle? First of all, it’s customizable! Using the Genesis Build-a-Bow tool on the Genesis website, I was able to choose a left or right handed bow and even the colors.
Beyond the customization, Genesis is the perfect introduction bow to the sport of archery because children can’t outgrow Genesis! There is no specific draw length, and with a draw length of 15” to 30”, everyone in the family can use this bow to shoot.
My son, brother, and dad all used the same bow to shoot with and had no trouble at all. The Genesis Original, Mini and Gen-X are available in convenient kits that have everything you need to get started in the sport of archery. Packaged like this makes them perfect for gift giving too.
Genesis Original and Mini Kits: Bow, Belt Tube Quiver, Adjustable Arm Guard, 5 Aluminum Arrows. Gen-X Kit: 3-pin Fiber Optic Sight, Whisker Biscuit Rest, Detachable Quiver, 4 Carbon Arrows
My son is pretty thrilled that he has his very own compound bow. I’m glad I didn’t wait until Christmas to give him this gift because the weather is perfect right now for him to get in the practice!
If you are looking for a great gift idea for the child in your life, girl or boy, check out Genesis Bows! It’s a gift that your child won’t outgrow and you can use the bow in your own backyard (city/county ordinance permitting) instead of having to visit a range!
