Tis the season to be busy, fa la la la la la la la la. Wrap, Bake, and Decorate so much that you get dizzy, fa la la la la la la la. The holidays are an amazingly memorable and overwhelmingly busy time of year for a lot of us.
Nights are shorter, extra time is required for shopping and baking and getting the house all festive. Simple is our theme this holiday season.
From gifts to desserts, to decorating…I’m simplifying things so I can enjoy more moments with my family and I’m sharing 5 Purely Simple Holiday Survival Tips.
5 Purely Simple Holiday Survival Tips
#1 Talk About Holiday Plans
When making holiday plans for the family, it can be tempting to say yes to every invitation, attend every community event, and stretch yourself thin.
When a holiday event arises, sit down as a family and talk about it. Does everyone want to go? What’s already going on that day? Is it a good use of your time during an already busy holiday season?
I’ve been guilty of dragging my family along to holiday events in town that weren’t enjoyable in the slightest. Now I just ask them and we find things that are fun for everyone.
#2 At Least One Weekly Family Night
Grab your calendar and mark off at least one weekly family night for the whole month. Having one night a week where you plan nothing, gives you time to recoup and reconnect.
That doesn’t mean you can’t mark things off your to-do list, like wrapping presents or baking cookies. But it’s nice to have a night during the busy holiday season where you’re simply at home.
#3 Keep a Holiday Hacks Journal
I can’t tell you how many times I have thought of something that I want to do or change the following year and forget. now I keep a Holiday Hacks journal in my kitchen drawer so I can jot down all those ideas that come to my head.
Sometimes it’s a Holiday DIY project, or something I want to replace or an easier way to decorate. You can even start a page for each holiday, and keep it somewhere handy year round.
#4 Stay Organized
Organization is key to holiday survival! Keep a list of where you’ve hidden presents, gather all your wrapping supplies in one place, corral holiday cards as they come in, and keep a calendar of all the holiday activities. Staying organized not only saves time, but it can help keep stress away.
#5 Purely Simple Desserts
Baking takes up a lot of my holiday time. I really enjoy it, the house smells good, and it results in plates full of deliciousness. I’ve learned over the years to simplify holiday desserts in order to stay sane and save time.
I would rather make a dozen purely simple desserts instead of 5 fabulously looking desserts that took me 97 hours a gallon of tears. One of my favorites is Easy Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl Fudge with DairyPure Milk!
