Lately, I’ve been talking a lot about back to school mornings. Today I wanted to talk about the opposite, the end of the day and fun after school ideas for preschoolers. The time when we pick up our kids with excitement because we missed them.
That’s something I’m really looking forward to after being at home with the twins every day for four years. I’ve taken business trips over the past few years but other than that, I rarely miss them because we’re never apart. I want to miss them and school is going to create that feeling.
When I pick them up I picture myself running with open arms, them running to me with giant grins and open arms. Us swirling together as we giggle. Yeah, it won’t happen like that. At. All.
I’m sure there will be smiles and some days tears because leaving friends is hard. No matter what emotions there are, I’m prepared for some after school fun!
5 Fun After School Ideas
#1 Play at the Park
When the weather is nice, stay and play at the school playground or head to a local park. If you have a lot of parks like we do, you could pick a new one each week or month.
#2 Take a Walk
If you live close to school, walk home after school. Not close? Take a walk around the neighborhood when you get home or go run around the local track.
#3 Picnic Snack
Toss a blanket in the yard and have a picnic snack. Talk about the day, play a game, or just sit and enjoy the snack.
#4 Story Time at the Library
If your kids love to read as much as my twins, story time at the library will be greeted with cheers. Find out what books their teacher is reading and pick up some of those. You could even start a new series that you can continue reading each visit.
#5 Scavenger Hunt
Print off a Scavenger Hunt and find all the things. You could do this around the school yard, neighborhood or even at the park.
