There was a time when I LOVED thrill rides. I’d wait in line for every roller coaster and make myself sick on silly silos. Then something happened and my equilibrium changed. I can no longer tolerate amusement park rides like I used to and flying on planes requires Dramamine now. But, that didn’t stop me from experiencing Guardians of the Galaxy Mission BREAKOUT! during Summer of Heroes at Disney California Adventure!
(Thanks to Disneyland for inviting me out to experience Summer of Heroes! Any opinions are 100% my own.)
Summer of Heroes at Disney California Adventure
Super Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy have arrived at Disney California Adventure Park!
I took a dose of Dramamine an hour before heading to Disney California Adventure and felt the anxiety rise inside my chest as we neared Guardians of the Galaxy Mission BREAKOUT! The rain began lightly falling as we made our way to the ride, Fast Passes in hand. We reached The Collector’s Fortress within minutes of entering the park and were among the first riders of the day. Score!
When you first enter Guardians of the Galaxy Mission BREAKOUT! you are greeted by a 183ft tall fortress. Inside The Collector’s Fortress you learn that The Guardians have been imprisoned by Taneleer Tivan, known as The Collector.
The Collector’s Fortress is adorned with antennae, satellite dishes, and other mysterious apparatus. Accented in shimmering hues of blue and gold, at night (with special lightning) it pulsates with imposing power. A gilded, 8ft tall statue of The Collector stands at the entrance and you can view the unique “Tivan Collection” of relics and species from all over the universe.
From their you enter The Fortress Lobby. A fascinatingly creepy stop filled with display cases holding artifacts and living creatures that The Collector has acquired. Here you listen to The Collector explain how he has trapped the Guardians of the Galaxy high atop his fortress in secured glass cages, wired with power from a massive generator and suspended over an open abyss. Queue heart rate increase at this moment, as you realize what you are in for.
Before entering The Collector’s Office, prepare to hold up your hands to be “bio-scanned” for security clearance. Once inside the office, there are more relics on display and lots of hidden references for all you super hero and Disney fans! Rocket appears up near the ceiling of the office, and quiet an impressive replica if I do say so myself. With your newly acquired security clearance, Rocket can hijack the gantry lift to the top of the fortress, disable the generator and free the other Guardians of the Galaxy. Dum dum dum…
If you haven’t found yourself going down the chicken stairs, that means you are about to board The Gantry Lift. Here is where all the up-and-down fun begins. Let me tell you, I grabbed a hold of those oh shit rails and didn’t let go unless gravity forced me too. Holy buckets does Guardians of the Galaxy Mission BREAKOUT! have you screaming and rising out of your seat. I don’t think I stopped moving for at least 15 minutes after I got off the ride. Did I love it? Heck yeah! Would I ride again? Absolutely not.
This ride has more high-speed ride time than ever before and the thrill factor gets going as soon as the gantry lift doors close and the music begins blaring. Each song is accompanied by a different up-and-down ride profile and story scenes, making every visit to the ride unpredictable.
SO much fun but a ride that was so intense for me that once was enough. I wish I could handle more because there are six ride profiles, each having a synchronized song from the “Awesome Mix Tape”! You could experience any one of the following profiles when you ride Guardians of the Galaxy Mission BREAKOUT!
- “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar
- “Give Up The Funk” by Parliament – this is the song we got!
- “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf
- “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5
- “Free Ride” by the Edgar Winter Group
- “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley
