We are just days away from another school year kicking off. My son is starting his final year in elementary school, my daughter is starting her first year in high school, and hopefully the twins will be starting preschool very soon. That’s a lot of school supplies, a lot of conferences, and a lot of opportunities for them to get sick. Before those alarm clocks start going off, it’s a great time to revisit those Healthy Habits for Back to School!
Healthy Habits for Back to School
#1 Fuel Your Morning with Breakfast
Stock up on easy breakfast items and gather quick recipe ideas. Grab and go items are great for busy mornings, and one dish breakfast casseroles are perfect for tossing in the oven while everyone gets ready.
#2 Wash Away the Germs
Washing hands is always important, but kids often forget. I’m always getting on my kids to wash their hands before heading to school, after bathroom breaks, before eating, and as soon as they walk in the door from school. I started keeping kids hand soap by the kitchen sink, in addition to the bathroom, and that’s helping them remember to wash when they come in the door.
#3 Screen Time Limits
When it comes to electronics and summer, I’m a little more lenient and give them more time to play. When school gets underway, there are screen time limits because homework, chores, and sleep come first. No screen time before school and they get 2 hours in the evening to play and stream. I love that they choose to split that up into smaller increments and many times, they don’t even use the full allotted time!
#4 Take Those Vitamins
I have to admit, I was slacking in the vitamins department. My oldest two kids started taking vitamins regularly last school year, and I should have been giving them some long before that. I am now, and that’s what matters so I can’t beat myself up about it. We’ve tried a few different types of kids vitamins, but they prefer gummies because of texture and flavor.
This school year, we’re giving Nature Made® KIDS FIRST® Multivitamin Gummies and Vitamin C a try! I was doing some school supply shopping at Target recently, when I spotted a deal on Nature Made® and stocked up. These vitamins are easy to chew and I think that is one reason my kids are liking them. I’m liking them because they get the essential daily nutritional support they may be lacking, and colors are derived from natural sources, so no synthetic dyes!
If your kids have had trouble taking vitamins, giving Nature Made® KIDS FIRST® Multivitamin Gummies a try may change that. My daughter leaves her bottle at her desk so she remembers to take it after homework, which is usually right before bed. They even come in all-natural fruit flavors that kids will love, like Orange, Cherry and Mixed Berry. Mixed berry is a favorite over here, and they don’t just taste great, they also help fill many of the key nutrient gaps from our kids’ diets, and support overall health.†
Vitamin C is another vitamin my kids are taking, and I have to tell you, this was a favorite vitamin of mine growing up. My grandma always had Vitamin C on the kitchen counter and would let me take one when I visited. I recently looked for that Vitamin C she gave me, and realized it wasn’t made for kids. Thanks grandma. 😉 Thankfully, Nature Made® KIDS FIRST® Vitamin C Gummies are made for kids, and provide an excellent source of vitamin C, with 125 mg per serving, to help support the immune system.†
I want to start a lifetime of healthy habits for my kids and back to school is the perfect time to do that. Whether it’s with less screen time, eating breakfast, or taking high-quality vitamins and supplements from Nature Made® to start the year on track. What about you?
