While we squeeze in date nights, it’s not often we have the opportunity to get all dressed up for it! That’s one reason I look forward to my husband’s work party. A fancy night out, delicious food that I didn’t have to pay for, and tons of fun. 😀 If this sounds like date night on your calendar this holiday season, here are some tips for feeling fabulous at your husband’s work party.
Feeling Fabulous at Your Husband’s Work Party
#1 Comfort and Confidence
Sexy, comfortable, and confident. That’s feeling fabulous at your husband’s work party, and it starts with your outfit. Picks something you love and feel good in, but that also gets a whistle out of your husband. 😉
#2 Stunning Accessories
Necklaces, earrings, and bangles. Pick out some stunning accessories to go with your holiday party outfit, but keep in mind what you will wear again. I love jewelry, but try to avoid pieces that will only worn once a year. One of my favorites is a gold necklace that looks great with an everyday sweater, and looks fab with an LBD.
#3 Subtle Holiday Makeup
I’m a big fan of subtle, and letting YOU be the shining star, not the makeup. A little eye shadow, mascara, and a bold lipstick are a great holiday look!
Next to dressing up, styling my hair for a holiday party is my second favorite thing. Being a work-at-home, I don’t style my hair very often. Mostly, it’s a mess when I’m hanging out at home. Lately, I’ve been managing my curls and wearing it curly more often, and honestly, I feel fabulous when I wear it curly!
It took me a while to wear my curly, because my thinning hair kept me from doing much with it at all. I have Hereditary Hair Loss, which is not uncommon, and mine comes from my father’s side. Did you know Hereditary Hair Loss accounts for 90% of cases? It’s commonly recognized by women in their 30’s (raises hand at age 35) as a “diffuse” thinning over the top of the head and along the part. That is EXACTLY where my hair had been thinning. If you have found yourself in my hair situation as well, know that Hereditary Hair Loss IS treatable. But, if left untreated, hair thinning can worsen over time; women can lose approximately one-sixth of their hair density over a period of 10 years.
Hereditary Hair Loss Signs
- Thinning Hair: Hair loses volume and density over time.
- Hair Shedding: Increased hair accumulation in shower, pillow, and hair brush. Most people lose between 50-100 hairs a day, which is considered normal hair loss. If you are seeing a consistent loss of 150 hairs a day, that is considered significant hair loss. (Note: If hair loss is sudden or patchy, consult a medical professional.)
- Widening Part or Visible Scalp: Increased scalp visibility is a definite sign of hair loss.
Hair Shedding is the first sign I noticed about 6 years ago. It hadn’t been significant, until during my pregnancy with twins it really increased, but I chalked it up to twin pregnancy. A year later it was still shedding more than normal, and I started noticing more visible scalp on the top of my head. I began using Women’s Rogaine® 5% Minoxidil Foam in 2014 and it has really helped! You may remember when I started using it, and simplified my hair routine.
The first and only FDA-approved, once daily application hair regrowth treatment for scalp, Women’s Rogaine® 5% Minoxidil Foam is exclusively designed for women experiencing hereditary hair loss. A brand that is #1 dermatologist recommended, it contains 5% minoxidil, which is the ONLY ingredient FDA-approved to regrow hair in women. If you stick with it, you could see up to 25% more hair in 3 months, and those are clinically proven results. The best part? It is simple to use, with a once daily (morning or evening) application that you massage directly on your scalp.

Styling Tips and Tricks from Thinning Hair
Tip 1: A clean scalp is a happy scalp
“Keeping the scalp clear of waxy buildup creates a better environment for hair regrowth. I recommend shampooing every other day, for every type of hair.” – Jill Crosby
Tip 2: Wear hats that fit and ditch the ones that don’t
“Hats cause hair loss only when they are too tight, don’t fit well, or rub and pull the hair constantly. Go ahead and enjoy wearing hats and caps that fit properly – especially the soft knit types.” – Jill Crosby
Tip 3: Embrace styling tools!
“You can use all of the same tools and techniques, just with less heat and less tension. The key here is gentle. Ask your salon stylist to ease up on the heat and tension, and use a light touch with towels and hairbrushes at home.” – Jill Crosby
Tip 4: Talk about thinning hair with your stylist
“Don’t be afraid to bring up any hair concerns with your stylist! We’ve heard it all – especially when it comes to thinning hair – and we’ll help you navigate the journey to hair regrowth. I personally recommend Women’s Rogaine® 5% Minoxidil Foam to my clients as an easy, over-the-counter product that works.” – Jill Crosby
Tip 5: Switch up your part
“Experiment with flipping your part to the opposite side. By adding a little texture spray to the roots you can get a new voluminous flip started. Or try a look without a defined part – sometimes with fine hair parts can expose too much scalp.” – Jill Crosby
Tip 6: LOB it off
“For most people shorter haircuts will create the illusion of volume, whereas the longer hair gets the more it weighs itself down and looks even thinner.” – Jill Crosby (An example of this would be the super on-trend “Lob” which is a longer version of the bob cut.)
You can find Women’s Rogaine® 5% Minoxidil Foam at Walgreens and Walgreens.com for at a suggested retail price of $29.99 for a two-month supply, or $49.99 for a four-month supply.
