Do you listen to listen? Or do you listen to reply? When having a conversation with your spouse, kids, friend, co-worker, or even a stranger, are you listening to them speak, like really listening to what they are saying? Or is your brain already forming a response, or ready to tell a similar story before they are even done speaking? I realized this weekend that I listen to reply.
It’s not something I purposely do and not something I was aware of until I heard NeedALittleAdvice speak at the Iowa Bloggers Conference yesterday. I had no idea I was going to leave the conference learning something about myself as a person. It wasn’t until after I got home that the words really sunk in and hit me. I listen to reply.
Listen to listen is something I am now consciously working on, and apologies to all of those who have suffered through conversations with me, and just wanted to scream “let me finish talking”! I truly am interested in 95% of the conversations I have with people in my life…my brain is just a busy body working over drive. What about yours?
I’d love to hear from you….do you listen to listen or listen to reply?
