There will be love. There will be pain. There will be hope. There will be fear.
Stand or fall I will be right here. For you.
-Halestorm’s Dear Daughter
I had no idea how having a daughter would change me, and continue to change me. Seeing yourself in them, having bigger hopes and dreams for them than yourself, and feeling the emotions as they go through them because you’ve been there before. Being the mom of a daughter gives you all the feels, just like I got after watching GRAMMY® Award-winning hard rock band Halestorm’s new video for “Dear Daughter” recently. The lyrics and music speak to you if you’re a girl mom, and it’s the perfect song for Mother’s Day. As soon as the song ended, I wanted to write my own Dear Daughter note to my 15 year old daughter.
My daughter is a freshman in high school and entering so many stages of life. Stages that are both terrifying and exciting for her and me. Break-ups and tough schedule decisions, late nights studying and friendship quarrels. Awards and school dances, tennis matches and band concerts. I want her to know that I am always right by her side no matter what, and a Dear Daughter Note is a great reminder of that.
As I look into the mirror I see me and I see you. Feeling all the joys and struggles that girls journey through. I know the road and I’ve been where you are. Winding and curvy with an end seeming so far. Confusing turns, dead ends, and pit stops filled with celebration. A tank filled with motivation and determination will help you reach your destination.
As you venture down this road, don’t change for anybody and don’t worry about what they say. Stay true to who you are in your heart, each and every day. This journey won’t be without love or pain or hope or fear. But through it all, whether you stand or fall, I will be right here for you.
Now more than ever, “Dear Daughter” is an important message to our daughters out there, young and old. It’s a message of support and empowerment that should be conveyed to all children by their loved ones. After watching the new Halestorm “Dear Daughter” video, scribble out your own Dear Daughter Note for your daughter. You never know what your words could inspire or motivate.
The support Halestorm’s Lead Singer Lzzy Hale received from her parents is what inspired the song. Her and her younger brother Arejay decided to start a rock band as kids and “if it wasn’t for my parents’ support we would have never started the band as early as we did. And we probably wouldn’t have gotten to this point,” Hale said of her parents’ encouragement to purse their dreams.
No matter what stage of motherhood you are in, every mother can appreciate the heartfelt and inspirational message from Lzzy Hale and “Dear Daughter” this Mother’s Day. She is an inspiration to girls of all ages who have big dreams, even us moms.
